On Friday August 29th, 2008 between the hours of 8:00pm and 2:00am the Traffic Safety Unit of the El Cerrito Police Department will be hosting a sobriety checkpoint. The checkpoint will be held within the City limits along the San Pablo Ave corridor.
The goal of any sobriety check point is to bring about deterrence through information, education and enforcement. The Labor Day weekend should be a time for family fun and enjoyment, not a time for alcohol related collisions. The El Cerrito Police Department is dedicated to enforcing alcohol related laws and there will be zero tolerance for any and all alcohol related crimes.
This checkpoint will be held as part of Contra Costa County's "Avoid the 25" campaign funded through a grant by the California Office of Traffic Safety. The El Cerrito Police Department participates in the National Highway Safety Administration's “Over the Limit, Under Arrest” national campaign as well.
Remember, friends don't let friends drink and drive and buzzed driving is drunk driving.
