On 5/29/2004, at approximately 2200 hours, two residents of Richmond, one male and one female, were arrested by Officer Leone after they were suspected of robbing a 16-year-old male juvenile in the parking lot of Target. The two had allegedly confronted the victim in the parking lot and offered to sell him a pair of jeans. When the victim refused, the two reached into his pockets and forcibly removed his money from his pockets. The two fled on foot and were discovered walking in the 300 block of South 50th Street (Richmond). Following identification by the victim and witnesses, the two were taken into custody and brought to the El Cerrito Police Department. Arrested were Rose Lee Stewart, 31, and Jesse James Hampton, 53. Both were booked on a felony charge of strong-armed robbery before they were transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek formal felony complaint against Stewart and Hampton with the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office. On 5/21/2004, at approximately 2047 hours, Officer Stanich arrested Damian Anthony Aguilar, a 30-year-old resident of Richmond, during a pedestrian stop when he was found to be in possession of a concealed dagger. The arrest occurred on San Pablo Avenue near Stockton Avenue. Aguilar was booked on a felony charge of being in possession of a deadly/dangerous weapon before he was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek formal felony complaint against Aguilar with the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office. On 5/19/2004, at approximately 2148 hours, Martin Gerardo Montoya, a 38-year-old resident of Oakland was arrested by Officer Molica when he was alleged to have shoplifted merchandise from Target. The loss, which included a C.D. player and two Sony Play Station games, totaled $127.00 and was recovered. Montoya was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felony charge of 2nd degree burglary in addition to a narcotics violation warrant before he was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department obtained formal misdemeanor complaint against Montoya with the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office. On 5/18/2004, at approximately 1527 hours, Sean Charles Harrison, a 40-year-old resident of Oakland was arrested by Officer Tang when he was alleged to have shoplifted merchandise from Target. The loss, which included sunglasses and two bottles of cologne, totaled $52.76 and was recovered. Harrison was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for theft with priors before he was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department obtained formal complaint against Harrison with the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office. On 5/16/2004, at approximately 1310 hours, Larry Robinson Sr., a 50-year-old resident of Berkeley was arrested by Sergeant Cliatt when it was discovered that there was a felony warrant for his arrest. The arrest followed a traffic stop at Cutting Boulevard and San Pablo Avenue in El Cerrito. In addition to the warrant arrest, Brown was cited for driving with a suspended license. Brown was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department before he was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 5/16/2004, at approximately 0800 hours, Samantha Spencer, a 35-year-old resident of Richmond was arrested by Sergeant Cliatt when it was discovered that there were three warrants for her arrest. The arrest followed a traffic stop on Carlson Boulevard near Adams Street in El Cerrito. One of the warrants was for felony narcotics violations. In addition to the warrant arrests, Spencer was cited for driving with a suspended license. Spencer was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department before she was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 5/14/2004, at approximately 2041 hours, Dennis Anthony Lanham, a 53-year-old resident of El Cerrito and Bryan Shipp, a 34-year-old resident of Emeryville were arrested following a traffic stop that occurred in the parking lot of Del Norte. Both were taken into custody after drug paraphernalia were found inside the car. Lanham also swallowed a small amount of suspected methamphetamine which he had hid inside his mouth. Both were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released pending additional investigation and laboratory analysis. On 5/13/2004, at approximately 2332 hours, a 13-year-old male led officers on a vehicle pursuit involving a stolen ’89 Camry. The pursuit terminated when the pursued vehicle crashed into a tree near Ludwig and Pointsett (El Cerrito). The juvenile was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a charge of grand theft auto and evading before he was released to a parent. The El Cerrito Police Department will submit this case to the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office for disposition. On 5/13/2004, at approximately 1105 hours, Erik Petersen, a 52-year-old transient male was arrested by Officer Alvarez when it was discovered that he was a convicted sex offender who had failed to register as is required by law. The arrest stemmed from a pedestrian stop that occurred in front of Trader Joe’s at the El Cerrito Police Department. Petersen was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department before he was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 5/12/2004, at approximately 1921 hours, Maria Janette Cabrera, a 21-year-old resident of San Pablo, was arrested at Target following an internal investigation involving embezzlement. According to Target, Cabrera had, on three occasions used gift cards that she pocketed while working, to make purchases herself. These cards had originally been given to customers who made returns. On each occasion, the customer changed their mind and returned the cards and kept their merchandise. Cabrera kept the cards and used them to make purchases. Cabrera was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a charge of embezzlement before she was released pending further investigation. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a formal complaint against Cabrera with the Contra Costa District Attorney. On 5/11/2004, at approximately 2355 hours, Bryce E Landes, a 32, was arrested by Officer Caputo following a bicycle stop after he was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamines and a smoking pipe. Landes was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a charge of possession before he was released per a citation. On 5/11/2004, at approximately 1030 hours, Tony Jefferson, a 48-year-old resident of Oakland, was arrested at Target after he exited the business with concealed merchandise. Jefferson had selected a duffle bag, and then placed 71 DVD’s into the bag before he attempted to flee through a fire exit. Jefferson was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on several felony charges, including grand theft and 2nd degree burglary, before he was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a formal complaint against Jefferson with the Contra Costa District Attorney. On 5/10/2004, at approximately 1927 hours, officers from this department were dispatched to the area of San Pablo Avenue and Portola Drive to investigate a reported collision and carjacking that had just occurred. Off Albrandt reported that Yolanda Bryant, a 21-year-old female attempted to car jack a vehicle in front of Marshall’s. When the first carjacking failed, she succeeded in carjacking a second nearby vehicle. When she was fleeing in this vehicle, she crashed it into several poles and a tree at Portola Ave. and San Pablo Avenue. This collision totaled the car. She attempted another carjacking, but the victim fled the scene. She then jumped into a security vehicle and attempted, unsuccessfully to carjack it. Bryant attempted another carjacking but failed. She ran southbound on San Pablo Ave. and attempted to carjack a red vehicle, which she left or was forced out of via unknown means. She continued to Moeser and San Pablo Avenue where she succeeded in carjacking a Cadillac and its’ driver. She forced the driver onto Carlson Boulevard towards Cutting Boulevard. An off duty Oakland P.D. Officer witnessed this and followed the carjacked Cadillac. ECPD units stopped the Cadillac at the liquor store on Carlson and So. 47th. (S) Bryant was arrested despite resistance. Bryant was booked for all of the above violations and was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a formal complaint against Bryant with the Contra Costa District Attorney. On 5/9/2004, at approximately 2206 hours, Michael Gregg McGuffey was arrested for theft after he removed property from a resident’s car parked in the 1700 block of Liberty Street. On 5/9/2004, at approximately 1740 hours, Schalla Jan McCants, a 27-year-old resident of Richmond, was arrested following a car stop by Officer Boutain when he was found to be in possession of forged driver licenses, stolen and forged credit cards, checks and other identification that had been stolen. McCants was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on several felony charges, including identity theft, before he was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. Stout was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felony charge of hit and run before he was transferred to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 6/9/2004, at approximately 1500 hours, Detectives Keith and Sergeant Maples arrested Margarita Cacho David, a 44-year-old resident of Benicia, on an El Cerrito felony warrant stemming from a forgery case at Mechanic’s Bank. David forged and cashed stolen checks from her employer, a local dentist. David was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on her warrant for forgery and possession of stolen checks before she was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility where she later posted bail. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a formal complaint against David with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.
