Report no.06-03625

On Tuesday, February 28th, 2006 at 1745 hours an officer responded to the Target Store at 11450 San Pablo Ave. on report of a shoplifter in custody. Richard Womack, a 49 year old San Francisco man had selected a watch and a wallet and then left the store without paying for the items. He was arrested by the store security. Womack was found to have five convictions for burglary and was transported to the county jail on charges of theft with priors.

Report no.06-03516

On Sunday, February 26, 2006, at 0810 hours officers responded to the Safeway store at 10636 San Pablo Avenue regarding a trespassing incident. Officers arrived and contacted 21 year old San Francisco resident, Zarinah Williams. While taking Williams into custody for trespassing, she assaulted one on the arresting officers by spitting on him and hitting him. Williams was booked for trespassing and assault on a peace officer. Williams was transported to the county jail.

On Sunday, February 26th, 2006 at 0740 hours at San Pablo Ave and Manila Ave an officer observed a man later identified as Alvin Jackson, a 51 year old Berkeley resident taking items form a recycling bin. The officer contacted Jackson and informed him that taking recyclables from the bins was considered theft form the city. He then determined that Jackson was armed with two knives in his back pockets. Jackson was arrested for petty theft and for possession of deadly weapons. He was booked and released on a citation.

On Sunday, February 26th, 2006 at 0100 hours officers responded to the Safeway store located at 11636 San Pablo Ave. on report of an assault. Upon his arrival the first officer found the security guard with a gash on his head from a broken bottle at the entrance. The suspect had stolen alcohol and the security guard had attempted to arrest him. The suspect then hit the security guard repeatedly over the head with a bottle of gin. The guard required several stitches in his head. The suspect fled the scene, leaving a sweatshirt behind with his ID in it. The suspect has been identified as Dawdu, Jhomo 1-9-1988, with an address in Berkeley.

With the help of the suspect’s family, Dawdu turned himself in later in the day at 1500 hours. He was booked and transported to the county jail.

On Saturday, February 25th, 2006 at 2008 hours officers responded to the Target store located at 11450 San Pablo Ave. on report of a shoplifter in custody. Gregory Pryor, a 20 year old Oakland resident had selected a portable CD player and removed it from the packaging and put it in his pants. The officers determined that Pryor had been convicted of theft several times before and he was transported to the county jail on charges of theft with priors.

On Saturday, February 25th, 2006 at 2008 hours an officer contacted Arthur Herring, a 43 year old transient from the Albany area. During the contact Herring identified himself as a sexual offender registrant. A records check confirmed that Herring was a sex registrant and that he was out of compliance with his registration requirement. As a transient registrant he is required to register every 30 days with the local law enforcement agency. He was transported to the county jail for failing to register as required.

On Saturday, February 25th, 2006 at 1220 hours, officers responded to the Mechanics Bank located at 9996 San Pablo Ave on report of a suspect cashing a counterfeit check. Priscilla Robinson a 22 year old Richmond resident had presented a counterfeit check to be cashed. The check was known to be fraudulent because an identical check had been passed at the bank earlier in the day. Robinson was booked and transported to the county jail on forgery charges.

On Saturday, February 25th, 2006 at 0125 hours an officer made a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle at San Pablo Ave and Wall Ave. The driver of the vehicle could not provide identification and gave a false name to the officer. She was eventually identified and cited for a misdemeanor charge of giving false identification and driving without a license. Her passenger, a 17 year old Richmond girl was found to be in possession of a kitchen knife used for protection and was charged with possession of a deadly weapon. She was released pending juvenile proceedings.

On Friday, February 24th, 2006 at 1400 hours, an officer contacted a known parolee at Key Blvd and Conlon Ave. after seeing him drive an unregistered vehicle. During the contact the parolee, Adam Filyau , a 24 year old El Cerrito resident was fond to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine and a stolen property. The property had been taken from a stolen car in Hercules three days prior. Filyau was booked on charges of possession of methamphetamine and stolen property and a parole hold and sent to the county jail.

Report no.06-03366

On Thursday, February 23rd, 2006 at 1930 hours while participating in a county wide task force targeting stolen vehicles, detectives from the El Cerrito Police Department stopped a vehicle at Carlson Blvd and Imperial Ave. in Richmond for vehicle code violations. During the stop, the occupants of the vehicle, were seen hiding something under the front seat. A search of the vehicle found three and a half ounces of methamphetamine, scales, and packaging materials. Joseph Etchieson a 35 year old white male, Rechelle Ricard a 31 year old white female and Seth Vance, a 42 year old white male were all arrested for possession for sales and transportation of a controlled substance, and possession of stolen property.

All three were booked and transported to the county jail.

On Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006 at 1510 hours an officer was flagged down by a citizen at San Pablo Ave and Ohio Ave reporting a woman that had tried to use a senior’s credit card at the Walgreen’s store. The officer detained the suspect, Audra Susoeff, a 38 year old San Rafael resident and her companion, Robert Robinson a 35 year old also from San Rafael. Suseoff produced the card she had used and it was found to be not in her name. The investigation revealed that the card was stolen and she was charged with burglary, possession of stolen property, and theft by an access card. Robinson was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and was also arrested. Susoeff was transported to the county jail and Robinson was released on a citation.

On Tuesday, February 21st, 2006 at 2230 hours officers responded to the Marshall’s Store at 10794 San Pablo Ave on report of a shoplifter in custody. The officer took custody of Denise Martinez, a 41 year old Richmond resident for stealing $119 worth of clothing. Martinez was also found to be in possession of pepper spray. During the booking process it was determined that Martinez had several prior convictions for theft. She was transported to the county jail on charges of theft with priors and being a felon in possession of pepper spray.

On Friday, February 17, 2006, at 2154 hours an officer conducted a traffic stop at Key Boulevard and Knott Avenue for a Vehicle Code violation. The officer conducted an investigation, which led to the arrest of 43 year old Richmond resident, Gary Sterling for possession of a concealed dagger, possession of tear gas and driving with a suspended license. The passenger, 25 year old El Cerrito resident, Adam Filyau was arrested for possession of burglary tools.

Sterling and Filyau were booked and then sent to the county jail.

On Monday, February 14th, 2006 at 0200 Officers responded to the 5200 block of School St. on report of a suspicious vehicle. Officers contacted the driver of the vehicle who stated that he had come to check on a friend that had sent a text message by cell phone that there had been a battery and that if she had to she would protect herself with a knife. The officers contacted the residence in question and after an investigation, arrested Robert Fleisher, a 40 year old Richmond resident for assault. He was transported to the county jail.

On Sunday, February 12th, 2006 at 1525 hours officers responded to the Chevron gas station at 11319 San Pablo Ave on report of a theft that had just occurred. Officers stopped Sean Blueford, a 42 year old Richmond resident at San Pablo Ave and Bay View Ave. Blueford was identified by the reporting clerk and placed under citizen’s arrest for petty theft of $2.58 worth of candy.

Blueford has a history of prior theft convictions and was sent to the county jail on a charge of Petty theft with priors.

On Saturday, February 11th, 2006 at 1140 hours officers responded to the Walgreen’s store at 11565 San Pablo Ave. on report of a theft that had just occurred. The officer took a report of a suspect that frequently comes to the store and steals items. The person had been seen stealing several drinks from the cooler. Later in the day the officer was called to Carrow’s restaurant on report of a disturbance and received a description of the subject similar to that of the theft. Officers located Demarr Carney, a 20 year old black male from Richmond across the street from Walgreen’s and detained him there. The witness from Walgreen’s was brought by for an in field lineup and confirmed that Carney was the suspect in the theft. He was placed under citizen’s arrest for petty theft. Carney was determined to have an extensive theft history and showed three prior convictions for theft. He was transported to county jail on charges of theft with priors.

On Saturday, February 11th, 2006 at 0250 hours an officer stopped a bicyclist on San Pablo Ave near Manila Ave for not having a light on his bicycle. When asked if he had any weapons he said he had a knife in his pocket. The knife was determined to be a sheath knife, with a 5 ¼” fixed blade. William Sharp a 39 year old El Sobrante man was placed under arrest for possession of a deadly weapon. He was found to be on probation for a similar charge. Sharp was transported to the county jail in martinez.

On Friday, February 10th, 2006 at 2210 hours an officer located a 2006 Chevrolet Impala driving in a neighborhood. The car had been reported stolen on February 9th to the Chico Police. The driver, Mani Nova, a 40 year old black male from Middeltown California had rented the car over a month ago and failed to return the car after numerous requests from the rental company he had rented it from. Nova was transported to the county jail on a charge of possession of a stolen car.

On Friday, February 10th, 2006 at 1030 hours. An officer responded to the El Cerrito High School on report of a student with an ice pick. The 16 year old female had been arrested for an outstanding warrant for loitering for the purposes of prostitution and was found to have an ice pick in her jacket. She was arrested and booked and transported to the juvenile hall. Possession of any weapon, specifically including an ice pick, on any school grounds can be considered a felony.

Report no.06-02407

On Tuesday, February 7th, 2006 at 1640 hours officers responded to a robbery that had just occurred in the 3400 block of Santa Clara Ave. The 33 year old Asian female victim had been walking with her 3 year old daughter when a lone suspect approached and grabbed her purse from her shoulder as she sheltered her daughter. The victim was pregnant and did not sustain any injuries during the robbery. The suspect fled in a red 2 door Acura Integra. The victim copied down the license plate of the car, which lead to the suspect’s address. The car was located with the victim’s purse inside. Everything was recovered except for a small amount of cash. The suspect, Gabriel Sherman, a 24 year old black male from Richmond turned himself in to investigators on February 8th. Sherman was transported to the county jail on charges of robbery and possession of stolen property.

On Sunday, February 5th, 2006 at 2350 hours an officer located a stolen Ford Taurus parked in the parking lot of the Terrace Motel located at 10869 San Pablo Ave. The car had been frequenting the motel the past few days. The car had been reported stolen in San Leandro on January 5th, 2006. The officer learned that the vehicle was registered to a particular room and that the occupant of the room was on probation out of two counties. Angela Chew, a 26 year old black female was contacted and found to be in possession of the keys to the stolen car. She was also found to be in possession of rock cocaine. She was arrested on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and possession for sales of a controlled substance.

Chew was transported to the county jail.

Report no.06-02210

On February 4th, 2006 at 1145 hours, officers responded to the 600 block of Elm St. to conduct a Civil Standby while someone moved out of a residence. The officers contacted Jose Alvarez Jr. of El Cerrito and found that he was under the influence of a controlled substance. There were several vehicles on the grounds of the residence in various states of assembly. A check on a 1994 Honda Accord revealed that it had been reported stolen to the Oakland Police on December 21st, 2005. Alvarez was placed under arrest for possessing the stolen car and was found to have methamphetamine on his person as well. He was transported to the county jail.

Report no.06-02040

On Thursday, February 2nd, 2006 at 1455 hours officers responded to Atlas Liquors store on report of a male trying to buy alcohol for minors. When the officers arrived they contacted Floyd Cummings a black male, 26 years old from Berkeley. He stated that he had been released from prison that morning. He was very intoxicated and the officer placed him under arrest for public intoxication. Cummings became combative and while taking him into custody, the officer sustained minor injuries. Cummings was transported to the county jail on charges of resisting arrest and parole violation.
